An easy intro into Qigong
Qigong and Energy Flow
-
Qigong, a revered practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is the art of cultivating life force energy—Qi—through movement, breath, and awareness. This practice harmonizes the body’s meridians, strengthens organs, and balances emotions by integrating the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of being. In this section, we'll explore how to activate, cultivate, and harvest Qi effectively, supporting healing and vitality.
-
The Meridian System:
-
The twelve primary meridians correspond to the body’s major organs and emotional states:
-
Liver Meridian – governs the smooth flow of Qi; associated with anger and frustration. When working with your liver energy, picture the colour green. Beautiful plants or trees, a shining angelic green light or anything that you love personally that might be green.
-
Lung Meridian – supports respiration release. Associated with grief and sadness. When working with your Lung energy, picture the colour white. White fluffy clouds, beautiful diamond white powdery snow, a shining white angelic light. Or anything you love personally that might be white.
-
Heart Meridian – nourishes joy, love, and emotional warmth. Associated with heart aches, heart breaks. When working with your heart energy, think of the colours red, pink or magenta. A beautiful blooming rose, an angelic beam of bright magenta, or anything you love thats red!
-

The Three Energy Centers (Dantians):
-
-
Lower Dantian (below the navel) – the center of vitality and grounding.
-
Middle Dantian (heart area) – the center of compassion and emotional balance.
-
Upper Dantian (forehead) – the center of intuition and spiritual awareness.
-
Step 1 - Activating Qi:
-
Before delving into the fluid movements of Qigong, it’s essential to awaken and prepare the body’s energy. Bouncing and tapping exercises serve as an invigorating start to your practice, stimulating Qi flow and energizing the meridians.
-
Stand with feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent.
-
Begin gently bouncing on the balls of your feet, allowing your arms to hang loosely by your sides.
-
Focus on a relaxed and rhythmic bouncing for 2–5 minutes, feeling the energy awaken throughout your body.
-
Use your fingertips or palms to tap lightly on key meridian points, such as the chest, shoulders, arms, and legs.
-
This rhythmic tapping stimulates blood flow and Qi circulation, releasing stagnant energy and preparing the body for deeper practice.

Step 2 -Moving Qi: Slow and Gentle Movements
With Qi activated, transition into the slow, flowing movements characteristic of Qigong. These movements guide Qi through the body’s meridians, promoting balance and harmony.
-
The Flow of Qi:
-
Engage in gentle movements coordinated with deep, rhythmic breathing.
-
Visualize Qi as a radiant light flowing through your meridians, clearing stagnation and restoring equilibrium.
-
Focus on connecting with your breath, allowing each movement to become a meditation.
-
Step 3 -Harvesting Qi: Integration and Stillness
After cultivating Qi through movement, it’s imperative to harvest and integrate this energy within your body. This practice ensures the benefits of Qigong are absorbed and retained.
-
Settling Qi:
-
Conclude your movement practice by standing still, feet grounded, and hands resting over the lower Dantian.
-
Focus on your breath, drawing awareness inward, and feeling the collected Qi settle peacefully within.
-
Emotional and Spiritual Connection:
-
Allow this stillness to open your heart and mind, nurturing a profound sense of peace and clarity.
-
Each moment of stillness becomes a meditation—an invitation to experience balance, gratitude, and connection to life’s universal flow.
-
By integrating these practices, Qigong becomes a holistic journey—a dance of breath, energy, and awareness that awakens the body’s innate capacity to heal and thrive.
